As abacus mental arithmetic education has undergone certain progress in today’s Taiwan and across Mainland China and many foreign destinations around the world, many impressive results can be found on abacus computing education, methodology and development yield in all places that adopt to the method, and with varied results.  Taking to the advantage of local and foreign abacus group exchange, the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce is aggressively conducting a host of abacus academic research work that not only takes to the form of long-term publishing of professional abacus theses in its monthly journal’s abacus column but also seek to bridge the exchange among avid abacus followers through staging various practical teaching workshops and teaching demos, as well as solicit academic research theses from abacus experts in Taiwan and from Mainland china. Moreover, the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce also welcomes publications from like-minded abacus followers, local and foreign, to step up mutual exchange and interaction.

The 10th Cross-strait Junior Abacus Demonstrative Exchange Competition 2000 held in Hebi province, China, which is attended by fine abacus contestants from China and Taiwan, in addition to tens of abacus and mental arithmetic experts and scholars.

Jejiang Province Abacus Association secretary general Tsai Fong joins the delegation in its Taiwan visit and presents a thesis debut at the exchange forum featuring – An overview to the teaching of the abacus subject.

As abacus and mental arithmetic teaching takes to a new direction that indirectly impacts abacus/mental education teaching material, it calls for our intense scrutiny in terms of how best to respond and adjust to the changing trend.
