As part of the heritage and life experience shared by the Chinese race, promoting the use of abacus remains a fundamental responsibility of all Chinese people.  The Taiwan Chamber of Commerce has since 1960 begun to conduct exchange and mutual visits with major abacus provincial associations across Mainland China through the China Zhusuan Association.  And over a decade’s time, more than the routine staging of the “Cross-strait Abacus Demo Contest”, and the “Cross-strait Abacus Correspondence Contest”, and there are also several jointly staged academic forums that help to introduce Mainland’s “abacus prevalence education”, the “Yi Co Chin”, and “the skill of stirring beads with both hands” to Taiwan.  At the same time, it also helps to promote Taiwan’s mental arithmetic classes that fit today’s industry and commercialized society and the franchise promotion to the mainland region that serve to compensate what each other lacks and to jointly excel the abacus computing enterprise.  In near term, the association is working with the China Zhusuan Association in streamlining a systematic cross-strait abacus judgeship and mental arithmetic certification program in anticipation of prolonging the cross-strait abacus- promoting endeavor.
